9 Senses

We perceive the world through our senses, and this creates our reality.

Our senses enable us to interact with and understand the world around us. They unconsciously collect, filter, and analyse information, which we then store, recall, reason about, and react to. The information that enters our consciousness shapes our internal and external experiences of the world, thus creating our reality.

Here are the nine senses:

  1. Gustatory- Taste
  1. Olfactory – Smell
  1. Tactile – Touch
  1. Auditory – Sound
  1. Visual – Sight
  1. Emotional – Feeling
  1. Mental – Thinking
  1. Subconscious – Belief systems and internal programs
  1. Superconscious – Knowing or Universal Connection

We are not our senses.

Our senses serve as tools that allow us to gather information from our internal and external environments. However, we often mistakenly identify ourselves with our senses, assuming that their use equates to our consciousness. Despite our tendency to define, experience, and express ourselves through our senses unconsciously, we are more than just our senses. As our true selves are separate from our senses, we can observe them, allowing us to examine them consciously with greater objectivity. This observation enables us to redefine ourselves, express ourselves in new ways, and react differently to situations.

Sensory input can only be experienced in real-time, which means that awareness of our senses always brings us into the present moment. Traditionally, we limit our understanding to our five physical senses. However, we propose expanding this understanding to include thought, emotion, the subconscious, and the superconscious as fundamental senses as well, bringing the total to 9 senses.

These additional senses provide us with even more subjective and objective information, allowing us to broaden our perspective of the world. We can objectively observe and examine our emotions, thoughts, subconscious programming, and superconscious connection, enabling us to rise above them. We can now take control of them instead of being controlled by them.

The 9 Sense Activation is a guided meditation designed to help us explore and develop all our own senses, and to use them in our daily life.

Focus and Awareness

“Where attention goes, energy flows.”

Awareness is an unbiased, open state of mind. Initially, we expand our awareness to encompass the entire scene or the big picture, allowing all the information from a specific sense to flow into us without discrimination, judgment, or labeling.

From this state, we can choose to direct our attention to a specific object, using our senses to focus in on it. If something draws our attention, we turn our focus to it and note all of its details. We can zoom in on every little detail, noticing more and finer details as we do. Then, we can observe how all these fine details constitute the object as a whole. We can also shift our awareness to all the other nine senses and notice if there is any additional information about the object that we can perceive.

Afterwards, we allow our attention to expand back into open awareness and repeat the process. This cycle of focusing and expanding our attention helps us to fully engage with our surroundings.

It’s important to understand that focus and awareness play a crucial role in how we perceive and interact with the world. By directing our attention, we can guide the flow of energy and enhance our perception, and even influence or change our perspective on life.

Notice, Acknowledge, Engage-Let Be-Let Go

If anything draws your attention in the focus-awareness state described above, simply notice it, acknowledge it, and then choose to engage with it, or to let it be, or just to let it go.

We often strongly identify with our thoughts and emotions, saying things like “I am sad” instead of “I feel sad”. However, when we start to view emotions, thoughts, and the sub- and superconscious as senses, it becomes particularly important not to personally identify with these sensations but to observe them objectively. This shift in perception empowers us to choose how we respond to the information they provide. It allows us to engage with certain sensations, learn from them, adapt, and evolve, or simply let them be, or let them go if they don’t serve us. This approach empowers us to take control of our responses to all experiences, both positive and negative.
